Abstract:
This study explored the effects of different fertilization seasons and combinations of nitrogen (N),phosphorus (P),and potassium (K) on the growth, photosynthetic physiology, and leaf nutrients of Tsoongiodendron odorum seedlings, aiming to find out the key promoting elements and construct a fertilization system adaptive to seasonal differences. The 10-month-old T.odorum seedlings were used for the fertilization experiment, which was carried out in spring (February) and autumn (October).Seven fertilization treatments—N,P,K single application and NP,NK,PK,NPK combined application were set up,and no fertilization was taken as the blank control. The effects of different fertilization treatments on the growth and photosynthesis of container seedlings of T.odorum were comprehensively evaluated by measuring the growth, photosynthetic characteristics, and leaf nutrients of the seedlings. The results showed that the effect of combined fertilization was significantly better than that of single application. In spring when T.odorum seedlings grew rapidly, the NK treatment performed best, with the highest quality index (QI) value and biomass, and it significantly increased the net photosynthetic rate (Pn),stomatal conductance (Gs),transpiration rate (Tr),and chlorophyll content (by 116.19% compared with the control). In autumn when T.odorum mainly reserved nutrients, the NP treatment had the highest lignin content, with the cellulose content, whole plant biomass,QI value,Pn,Gs,Tr,and leaf total phosphorus content only secondary to those of the NK treatment.Correlation analysis showed that the total nitrogen content of leaves had significantly positive correlations with chlorophyll and cellulose content, being the key to driving the improvement of photosynthetic capacity. In terms of the comprehensive score of principal components, the NK and NP treatments ranked the first in spring and autumn, respectively. The responses of growth and photosynthetic characteristics of container seedlings of T.odorum to fertilization system had significant seasonal specificity. It is recommended that the differentiated fertilization strategy of NK in spring and NP in autumn should be adopted to effectively promote vegetative growth and photosynthetic performance, which provides a solid theoretical support and an application path for the efficient cultivation of high-quality seedlings of rare and endangered tree species.
