Abstract: |
To address the problems of poor soil nutrients, low microbial activity and the challenge of plant survival in the semi-arid coal mining area of western China, a study was conducted focusing on the single application of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi in the original soil from the mining area and the potted plant of Caragana korshinskii as the control. The treatments involved the inoculation of AM fungi and the combination with Azotobacter chroococcum, Bacillus mucilaginosus, and B. megaterium, respectively. The differences in soil physical and chemical properties, soil enzyme activities, glomalin-related soil protein (GRSP), plant growth, physiological characteristics, and root growth were studied. The results showed that, compared with the control group, different microbial inoculation treatments could significantly increase the contents of available potassium, available phosphorus, ammonium nitrogen and organic matter in the rhizospheric soil of C. korshinskii. Additionally, these inoculations also increased the activities of urease, sucrase and catalase in the soil, thereby promoting the growth of C. korshinskii. Further studies showed that each treatment group led to an increase in the content of chlorophyll a, carotenoid, and soluble protein in C. korshinskii, thereby improving its ability to resist adverse environment. Among them, the AZBK group (AM fungi added with the three bacteria) demonstrated the most substantial improvements in the improvement of soil physical and chemical properties, as well as in plant growth and stress resistance. Specificially, the soil organic matter increased by 95.1 %, and the soluble protein in C. korshinskii increased by 225.0 %. The findings provide valuable scientific insights for addressing the shortage of soil fertility and aiding vegetation restoration in arid and semi-arid coal mining areas. |
